Get your symptoms assessed by a trained pharmacist who can prescribe treatment where needed
Independent prescribing is a service where a specially trained pharmacist can assess you, talk through your symptoms and, where it is appropriate, prescribe treatment. It is offered here as part of NHS Wales services, so there is no need to see a GP first for the conditions we are able to help with. It may suit you if you have a new problem you would like looked at, or a question about a medicine you are already taking.
What happens
You will have a private consultation with one of our prescribing pharmacists. They will ask about your symptoms, your general health and any medicines or allergies you have. They may carry out a simple examination if it helps.
After that, they will explain what they think is going on and what to do next. That might mean advice and self care, a prescribed medicine, or a referral on to your GP or another service if you need care we cannot provide.
Who it is for
The service is open to adults and children, though what we can treat depends on the pharmacist's training and the NHS Wales service. If your problem falls outside what we can prescribe for, we will tell you straight away and point you in the right direction.
