If you have had unprotected sex, or you think your usual contraception may have failed, our pharmacist can help. Emergency hormonal contraception — often called the morning after pill — is available free on the NHS at Vale of Neath Pharmacy. You do not need to see a doctor first, and you do not need an appointment.
Emergency contraception works best the sooner it is taken. If you think you may need it, please come in and speak to us as soon as you can. Even if some time has passed, it is still worth asking — our pharmacist will talk you through your options.
What happens when you come in
Ask any member of the team for the pharmacist. You do not have to explain why at the counter. The pharmacist will take you into our private consultation room, away from the shop floor.
You will be asked a few questions about your health, any medicines you take and when the unprotected sex happened. This is to make sure the treatment is safe and right for you. The conversation is confidential and completely free of judgement.
If emergency contraception is suitable, the pharmacist can supply it there and then. If it is not, or if another option would suit you better, they will explain what to do next.

There is no need to book — simply come into the pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist.
